Binging on the Voodoo Queens

I don't usually buy things on ebay, because it can be addicting and I am tight on money right now.  So I really should cut back on buying records, however I could not resist this lot! I got the Voodoo Queens Crocodile Revenge LP on Too Pure, the Fish in the Sea/Sugar Overdose 7" on Voodoo Records, the Eat the Germs/Hairy 7" on Too Pure and the Kenueww Head 10" on Too Pure.  The 10" features cartoon girls on the back saying things like "who needs boys when you've got guitars!!!!"  I know I wrote about this band before, but I am totally digging them right now. They remind me of a British less-surfy verision of one of my favorite bands, the Trashwomen. Pure girl garage rock. What's not to love?

 

I still need to get the Peel Sessions albums, as well as the Supermodel Superficial, F is for Fame and Neptune 7"s to complete the collection.  I wonder what the statistics are on how much people like us spend on music a year.... But could you imagine your life without music? I can't... And finding new bands (although they are not new) is so exciting to me.

 

The Trashwomen

Back in the day when grrrls used to trade zines and cassette tapes through the mail, someone made me a tape that included the San Francisco bay area band The Trashwomen on it. Of course, I fell in love!

The Trashwomen formed in 1991 and included Tina "Boom Boom" Lucchesi, Danielle "Lead Pedal" Pimm and Elka "Kitten Kaboodle" Zolot. They originally formed for just one gig, but decided to keep the band going. They split up in '97 and reunited in 2007-2008 to play some gigs in the CA area.

I have their three LP's (Spend the Night with The Trashwomen, Deep Space and Live!) , but if you have any of their 7"s, I'd love to trade something!

Welcome to Grrrl Sounds!

Years ago I used to have a zine called Frosting on the Cake Lady. I LOVED writing this zine, and had a lot of empowering experiences self-publishing it (including interview Kathleen Hanna.) So, for many reasons, I decided to start this blog. I have hopes for it to evolve into a website, community etc. and would love your help!

This blog will be dedicated to grrrl's who rock, with a primary focus on indie, garage and punk music. I know it looks dull now but I have hope that it will evolve into something greater. I'd love for this site to be interactive and to have guest bloggers, as my knowledge is not comprehensive. So if you have graphic design knowledge, relevant news, record or concert reviews or any ideas please get in touch!

Basically, I'd love to share music with you and have you share music with me. I love female fronted bands, and it's sometimes hard to find stuff, cos a lot of it is obscure. I will be sharing information on a variety of bands, old and new from Bikini Kill to The Trashwomen to Thee Headcoatees to Girlschool to the Shangri-Las.
