The Gits - Second Skin, Social Love 7"

Cleaning the house and stumbled across this 7".  I love finding things I forgot I had! This 7" features two of my favorite Gits songs, Second Skin and Social Love.  It was recorded on 7/16/91 and released 8/12/91 on Broken Rekids.  One of my favorite songs of all time is an acoustic version of Social Love sung by Mia Zapata on the Home Alive - The Art of Self Defense compilation.

Super Girls LP Set

I love yard sales! This weekend Jason scored this 3 LP compilation for a dollar! It's called Super Girls and features some of the best 1960's girl groups.  It was put out by Warner Special Products in 1979. I believe they re-released this compliation as a four LP set at some point as well.

There are songs from: Shangri Las, Martha and The Vandellas, The Cookies, Mary Wells, The Essex, Raindrops, Marcie Blaine, Murmaids, Earl Jean, Orlons, Chordetttes, Diane Renay, Skeeter Davis, The Supremes, The Marvelettes, Shirley Ellis, Dixie Cups, Barbara Lewis, Shelley Fabares, Chiffons, Peggy March, Jelly Beans, Betty Everett, Little Eva, Dee Dee Sharp, Claudine Clark, Brenda Lee, Robin Ward.

If you see this, it is definitely worth checking out!

7 Year Bitch Sick 'Em 10" Picture Disc

I recently was at In Your Ear and picked up the 7 Year Bitch Sick 'Em 10" Picture Disc (C/Z Records, CZ048.) It's limited to 2500 and is awesome! Tracks include: In Lust You Trust, Sink, Gun, Chow Down, Tired Of Nothing and Knot. It came out in 1992 after Stephanie Sargent passed away and is dedicated to her.

7 Year Bitch were good friends with The Gits, so Mia Zappatta's death had a huge impact on them. Valerie Agnew co-founded the amazing anti-violence and self-defense organization Home Alive. Later I'll write more about the awesome Home Alive compilation, and also the Evil Stig CD (Gits Live backwards, which was a band that included the remaining members of The Gits, fronted by Joan Jett.)

Give Me Back LP

If you can get your hands on this record you should! Give Me Back (on ebullition) features 14 songs, including one of my favorite Bikini Kill songs of all time "Daddy's Li'l Girl"!

It also comes with a zine, which includes lyrics to all the songs and some cool articles, including one called "...revolution... grrrl style then - gender roles and early punk." Also included in the zine are the lyrics to "Rockstar" which is from the Kathleen Hanna spoken word 7" split with Slim Moon on KRS.
